Climate Change Awareness | El Niño Effects | Kharif Season Preparedness
A Pre-Kharif Farmers' Training Programme was organized at Viroda village in Taluka Yawal through the joint efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Pal and the Agriculture Department, Yawal. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among farmers about climate-related challenges and preparing them for the upcoming kharif season.
Prof. Atul Patil delivered an informative lecture on the impacts of climate change and the El Niño phenomenon on agriculture. He explained that El Niño is a climatic event associated with the abnormal warming of surface waters in the Pacific Ocean, which can significantly influence rainfall patterns, temperature, and weather conditions across various regions, including India.
Prof. Patil highlighted the possible effects of El Niño on kharif crops, such as delayed onset of monsoon, irregular rainfall distribution, prolonged dry spells, and increased temperature stress.
The programme provided a platform for farmers to discuss their concerns regarding weather uncertainties and crop planning. Participants were encouraged to follow weather advisories and scientific recommendations issued by agricultural institutions for better decision-making during the cropping season.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion session, where farmers received answers to their queries related to climate change, crop management, and kharif season preparedness.
