The Agricultural Engineering Department works to improve farming efficiency through modern tools, mechanization, and resource management techniques. It supports farmers by promoting advanced machinery, reducing manual labor, and encouraging value addition through processing units. By focusing on practical training and technology dissemination, the department contributes to increased productivity, cost reduction, and better livelihoods for farmers and rural communities.
Agricultural Engineering | Farm Mechanization & Post-Harvest Technologies
The Agricultural Engineering Department at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) works towards promoting farm mechanization, efficient water management and post-harvest technologies for sustainable agricultural development. The department conducts demonstrations, training programmes and advisory services on improved farm machinery, precision farming, soil and water conservation, irrigation systems, renewable energy technologies and value-addition units. Through capacity building and technology dissemination, the department aims to enhance farm productivity, reduce production costs and improve the livelihood of farmers and rural entrepreneurs.
This Krishi Vigyan Kendra has two tractors of different capacity with several tractor drawn as well as bullock drawn farm implements. KVK provides these implements to farmers on hire basis on minimum rent.
Different drudgery reducing technology demonstrations are regularly given to farm women like Soybean harvesting mittens, Cotton picking apron, different sickles, milking stool and stand, different types of hoes, dibbler, Hanging type of double screen cleaner etc. Also low cost fluoride water purifiers are distributed among the fluoride affected villages which reduces the fluoride content from water.
The Dal Mill Unit established at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) serves as a demonstration and value-addition facility for processing pulses such as pigeon pea, chickpea, green gram, and black gram into edible dal. The unit is equipped with cleaning, grading, dehusking, splitting, polishing, and packaging machinery to showcase efficient pulse processing technologies. It helps farmers, FPOs, and rural entrepreneurs learn value-addition practices, improve produce quality, and enhance income through agro-processing.
The department aims to enhance farm productivity, reduce production costs and improve the livelihood of farmers and rural entrepreneurs through technology dissemination.
