Rosha Oil Distillation Unit
Rosha Oil Distillation Unit | Essential Oil Extraction from Aromatic Plants
Plant Details (Cymbopogon martinii)
Common Name: Palmarosa or Rosha grass
Type: Perennial aromatic grass growing 1.5-2.5 meters tall
Soil & Climate: Sandy-loam soil, warm humid climate, annual rainfall 100-250 cm
Harvesting: 3-4 cuts per year starting from 6 months after planting
Oil Yield
Approximately 0.5-1.0% essential oil from fresh biomass (i.e., 100 kg grass gives 0.5-1.0 liter oil)
Distillation Process (Detailed)
- Biomass Chopping: Grass is chopped into 5-10 cm pieces
- Loading into Tank: Loaded into distillation tank (capacity: 500 kg, 1000 kg, or 2000 kg biomass)
- Steam Passage: Steam is passed through the biomass (either from a boiler or direct fire)
- Condensation: Vapor passes through a condenser (water-cooled) and separates into oil and hydrosol
- Oil Separation: Oil is collected using a Florentine flask (separator)
Equipment Available
Different capacity distillation units based on biomass availability
Market Price
Rosha oil fetches ₹8,000-15,000 per liter depending on purity (geraniol content 75-85%)
Additional Use
Distilled water (hydrosol) is sold as a natural room freshener or skin toner
Farmers can earn ₹1,00,000-1,50,000 per hectare per year from Rosha cultivation, much higher than traditional crops.
