OFT and FLD

On-Farm Testing (OFT) and Frontline Demonstrations (FLD) are key extension activities used to transfer agricultural technologies from research institutions to farmers’ fields. OFT involves testing and refining new technologies under local conditions to ensure their suitability and effectiveness. FLD focuses on demonstrating proven technologies on farmers’ fields to showcase their production potential and benefits. Together, these approaches help improve farmer awareness, increase adoption of scientific practices, and enhance crop productivity and income.

On-Farm Testing (OFT) & Front Line Demonstration (FLD) Technologies

Overview

The Horticulture Department at KVK Pal conducts On-Farm Testing (OFT) and Front Line Demonstrations (FLD) to evaluate and demonstrate improved banana production technologies under real farming conditions. These technologies focus on fertigation management, foliar nutrient application, and bunch quality improvement.

On-Farm Testing (OFT) Technologies

OFT - I
BANANA
Fertigation Management of Banana

Evaluation of fertigation scheduling and nutrient management practices for optimizing banana yield and quality under drip irrigation system.

OFT - II
BANANA
Foliar application of acetyl salicylic acid 0.1 mM on Banana

Assessment of foliar spray of acetyl salicylic acid (0.1 mM) for inducing biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, improving growth, yield, and post-harvest shelf life of banana.

Front Line Demonstrations (FLD) Technologies

FLD - I
BANANA
Demonstration on foliar micronutrient application of Arka Banana Special

Demonstration of foliar spray of Arka Banana Special (micronutrient formulation) for correcting nutrient deficiencies, improving bunch weight, and enhancing fruit quality.

FLD - II
BANANA
Use of sulphate of potash 2% spray on Banana bunch

Demonstration of 2% Sulphate of Potash (SOP) spray on developing banana bunches for improving finger filling, bunch weight, fruit sweetness, and shelf life.

Technologies Summary

Sr. No. Type Technology
1OFT-IFertigation Management of Banana
2OFT-IIFoliar application of acetyl salicylic acid 0.1 mM on Banana
3FLD-IDemonstration on foliar micronutrient application of Arka Banana Special
4FLD-IIUse of sulphate of potash 2% spray on Banana bunch

These technologies aim to enhance banana productivity, improve fruit quality, and increase farmer income through scientific interventions.

Expected Benefits

  • Improved Yield: Higher banana bunch weight and productivity
  • Better Quality: Enhanced fruit sweetness, size, and shelf life
  • Nutrient Efficiency: Optimized fertigation and foliar nutrient application
  • Stress Tolerance: Enhanced biotic and abiotic stress tolerance with acetyl salicylic acid
  • Farmer Income: Increased profitability through higher quality produce
