OFT & FLD

The Agricultural Engineering Department at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Pal (Jalgaon) implements On-Farm Testing (OFT) and Frontline Demonstrations (FLD) to promote advanced farm mechanization and precision agriculture technologies. Key initiatives include drone-based spraying in soybean, precision seed sowing using rotary dibblers, Broad Bed Furrow (BBF) planter technology, and spiral separators for grain cleaning. These technologies help reduce labor, improve input efficiency, enhance crop productivity, and ensure better quality produce, ultimately supporting sustainable and profitable farming for small and marginal farmers.

Overview

The Agricultural Engineering Department at KVK Pal conducts On-Farm Testing (OFT) and Front Line Demonstrations (FLD) to evaluate and demonstrate advanced farm mechanization technologies for improving efficiency, reducing labor requirements, and enhancing crop productivity.

On-Farm Testing (OFT) Technologies

OFT - I
SOYBEAN
Assessment of Drone-Based Spraying in Soybean Crop

Evaluation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) / Drone technology for pesticide and nutrient application in soybean crop, assessing spray efficiency, coverage uniformity, droplet penetration, labor savings, and cost-effectiveness compared to conventional spraying methods.

Drone Spraying Advantages:
  • Timely application irrespective of field conditions
  • Reduced labor requirements and drudgery
  • Uniform coverage and better penetration
  • Reduced chemical exposure to operators
  • Lower water requirement (minimum water volume)
OFT - II
GENERAL
Assessment of Manual Operated Precision Rotary Dibbler

Evaluation of manually operated precision rotary dibbler for seed sowing operation, assessing seed placement accuracy, depth control, spacing uniformity, labor efficiency, and impact on germination and yield.

Rotary Dibbler Features:
  • Precise seed placement at desired depth and spacing
  • Reduces seed rate and seed wastage
  • Low-cost, manually operated design
  • Suitable for small and marginal farmers
  • Improves germination and crop establishment

Front Line Demonstrations (FLD) Technologies

FLD - I
SOYBEAN
Demonstration on Broad Bed Furrow (BBF) Planter Technology for Soybean

Demonstration of Broad Bed Furrow (BBF) planter technology for soybean cultivation, which creates raised beds and furrows simultaneously while planting seeds, improving soil aeration, water management, and drainage.

BBF Technology Benefits:
  • Better soil aeration and root development
  • Improved water drainage and moisture conservation
  • Reduced soil compaction
  • Enhanced fertilizer and input use efficiency
  • Suitable for mechanized inter-cultivation
FLD - II
GENERAL
Spiral Separator for cleaning

Demonstration of spiral separator technology for cleaning and grading of agricultural produce (grains, pulses, seeds) based on specific gravity, shape, and surface texture differences.

Spiral Separator Features:
  • Efficient separation of stones, cracked grains, and impurities
  • Grading based on specific gravity and surface texture
  • No moving parts - low maintenance
  • Improves grain quality and market value
  • Suitable for various crops including soybean, wheat, pulses
